Welcome to Katrina Lee Photography and Grassroots Images...THE BLOG!

My name is Katrina Lee, and thank you for visiting my site!

I am a wife to a wonderful, supportive, and loving husband, a mother to two handsome and spirited little boys, a high school English and Journalism teacher, and a self-taught photographer. My passion for photography was born the first time I sat down and listened to the stories my parents and grandparents told me about my ancestors. Prairie photographer Solomon Butcher captured the essence of my ranching family over 130 years ago, but his images have stayed with me and play a large role in my love for lifestyle photography. His goal was to tell the story of the hardworking homesteaders of the plains, and he did that by traveling the countryside, asking families to let him make images for them. Etched forever into glass, his photos remain as a pictoral history of the settlement of the plains.

My love for photography has been evolving for several years, but the birth of my children and teaching it as part of my journalism class at my local high school encouraged me to take it to the next level. My approach to crafting images is, the more natural the better! Lifestyle and photojournalistic art is what I will create for you, as my goal is to tell the story of who you are. I will guide you into creating beatiful art for your walls, and success begins with getting to know who you are before I begin creating the images themselves. For this reason, I will spend some time chatting with you and your family before the creative process begins. In doing so, real images are created, and fun is definately part of the deal! A play date at the park, making cookies, playing catch, flying kites, an evening stroll...activities that illustrate your story will make wonderful images to decorate your home. My photographic philosophy is "Capturing Life...Moment. By. Moment". That is the best way I can describe vision for your images.

"There was nothing but land; not a country at all, but the material out of which countries are made."
— Willa Cather (My Antonia)

My other photographic passion is still art, and my canvas of choice is the natural beauty of the great outdoors. Hailing from rural central Nebraska, I chose "Grassroots Images" as part of my photography identity. Besides portraiture, I love capturing the essence of the land. I love illustrating the beautiful simplicity the country, while still shedding light on the complexities of living rural America through my journalism photographic perspective. Over time, these rural landscapes continue to diminish, and one of my most ambitious goals is to capture them before they turn to dust. You will find my Grassroots Images gallery on my site as well, and if you are interested in purchasing any of the prints you see, please contact me for my prices, as they are all for sale.

Thanks for stopping by to browse through my site. I would love to work with you to capture your moments and make them into one-of-a-kind custom pieces of art!
